In October 2019 we visited a health camp in Sadni Bata village organised by Uplift Mutuals, the Mumbai-based pioneer of a community-owned health microinsurance programme, for Uplift policyholders/members.
In this short video, we interviewed three local leaders to discover the true impact the health camp is having to the low-income villagers of Sadni Bata.Mr Kamleshbhai Bhikhubhai Bagul Sarpanch, a local village leader, said: “We are really remote due to the mountainous terrain here so the provision of the health camp is really valuable… I hope you will continue to provide services to our village.”
This health camp was the first time many of the villagers had met with a doctor (read the full story).Over the next five years, CIC plan to scale up their existing livestock microinsurance product by partnering with dairy cooperative associations as part of a holistic approach to improving the lives and livelihoods of low-income farmers and their families. As well as providing affordable risk-mitigation solutions, CIC’s livestock policy includes targeted actions on financial literacy training, improved animal husbandry practices and access to veterinary services for the intended recipients.
In April 2018, Hiroko Kowada and Naruto Takahashi of ICMIF member Zenkyoren (Japan) visited the DHAN Foundation in Madurai, India to see first-hand the impact of their organisation's support to the ICMIF 5-5-5 Mutual Microinsurance Strategy on poor communities in India.

Uplift Biradaree, Marathi
Through ICMIF’s 5-5-5 Mutual Microinsurance Strategy, Uplift aims to bring health mutual aid solutions to an additional half a million low-income people in Mumbai and Pune over the next five years. The video narrates the story of Savita whose child has fallen ill and explains about the benefits of her membership with Uplift's Biradaree, the mutual health risk sharing programme where families come together to share their health risks.
The Achmea Foundation provides marketing assistance to Uplift Mutuals in India
The Achmea Foundation, a Netherlands-based member of the International Cooperative and Mutual Insurance Federation (ICMIF) is supporting ICMIF’s 5-5-5 Mutual Microinsurance Strategy. James McPherson's visit to DHAN Foundation
